How to keep in shape for #LFW

With London Fashion Week around the corner, it’s important for you to start thinking about you workout routine and taking it to the next level to help bring out the best of your body!

Today’s post will provide you with some great #MVtoptips to help you stay in shape for this season & even bust open a workout myth that won’t help you. There is so much information out there it’s good to know what does work for you, and what doesn’t. That’s why it’s good to do a lot of research before experimenting with a detox or buying a workout programme that may not be suited to your body.

London Fashion Week designers like Stella McCartney even got involved with Adidas to help motivate the fashion world into fitness when she did a presentation of fitness clothing 💪🏻

As every #MVbabe is unique and different we want to help inspire you to stay motivated and hopefully bring out the best in you! So here we go!

1. Stay hydrated

Very simple, easily forgotten.

During your workout it’s vital to make sure you are looking after and responding to your body. Sweat is good for you, it helps flush your body of substances that are bad. The body releases toxins by using sweat as the conduit. It can even help you reduce acne! However - if you're sweating that means your body will also become dehydrated so that’s why you also need to drink lots of water! Respond to what your body is asking for and in turn these natural benefits can help bring out the best for your skin and body!

Try Coconut water to help you hydrate naturally with great taste from brands like Vitacocouk!

2. Tried Boxing?

Boxing is a good full body workout. It helps you cover all your body areas and provides a useful balance between cardio and resistance training. Even though it may not alone be the only workout routine you use, it’s a fun and interactive way to get motivated and get physical.

Boxing is also a great outlet for stress, helping you de-stress during the shows/ castings and your general crazy fashion week schedule! It can also be a good way to help you recover both physical and mentally. It’s also a great exercise to do by yourself or with your friends! Get others involved to help bring out the ultimate workout routine and produce effective results!

3. How about Yoga?

Whilst it’s always good to physically push the body through intense workout routines, yoga is also another powerful way that can really help stretch your muscles and increase your range of motion. With regular practice, you can even improve your flexibility! Whilst yoga is not aerobics it can help you lower blood pressure, increase circulation and lower bad cholesterol.

After an intense workout or a busy day of castings it’s especially great to do a yoga session to help you relax and focus your body towards a peaceful outlet of energy.

4. Healthy Snacks

Whilst being cautious of your weight, especially during the busy show schedules, it’s easy to forget and also hard to maintain a full diet with proper meals to keep you strong. That’s why we also recommend you fit snacking into your healthy lifestyle.

Check out the amazing array of health snacks you can find just about anywhere in London! These are some of our healthy snack inspirations to help you get an idea of what kind of snack could be good for you.

Popcorn is a great healthy snack you maybe surprised to hear! It’s high in fiber and low in calories which, compared to most snack foods is a hard thing to find. You can obviously overdose it with butter and other toppings, but staying simple is sometimes best.  It can help fuel your next meal – so have a look out there as some popcorn brands are better than others and the best snacks to eat are low in calories & high in nutrition. This helps keep you full for a longer time.

5. Tone up on the treadmill

Hop on a treadmill and start off your workout routine to get your body moving.

Do a steady mixture of sprinting/ jogging/ speed walking to help build up your body according to what works best for you. It’s also a great idea to hold weights such as a three- to five-pound dumbbell in each hand to help out your upper-body.

If you don’t want to pay for a gym membership, explore the amazing array of London parks you can run around. Especially on the weekend it’s a great idea to explore London when your schedule may be more relaxed!

Here our some of our running recommendations in London.

6. Chart your progress

Stay motivated using a fitness report card/ app or even through photographing your journey. Not only is it great for you to see your progress and physically see and report the routines that work for you - it’s also great for your followers. Post about your work out journey and give others advice on your experience.

Understanding what works best now can then also help you in the future if you want to get back into shape after the holiday season for example. You can then go through your workout scrapbook & know what worked out best for you and your body and what didn’t.

7. Work out Myth Bust:

“Strength training will make you bulk up” : False

According to this is a number one workout myth that just simply isn’t true. It’s hard to build up normal strength training for women, as we don’t have as much testosterone as men.  It’s said that in fact, if weight loss is your goal, then strength training can actually help you lean out as long as you also keep your nutrition in check. It’s about a balance of everything basically.

Models are often taught to focus on loosing weight to stay in shape, but it’s very important to understand the different ways about going about this. Building your strength helps you become stronger, not necessarily bigger. Research and find out the best routine for you and understand how to deal with your body.

Whilst it’s always good to stay in shape for the fashion week season (and really we should be all year round 😉), it’s can also be hard to find motivation. So don’t overstress about  competing with other models, focus on yourself and your own body, understand how best to respond and react to it. Everyone is different! Even though it’s great to look to others for inspiration and advice, the best motivation actually comes from you.

So our #MVtoptip is simply to get out there and do the best you can!
