From swimming to spinning, we’ve rounded up the best new fitness trends and classes for 2014.
UNDER WATER WORKOUTS
We’ve mentioned Hydrofit before, but 2014 is the year for under water workouts. The underwater spinning class helps you burn more calories as you’re cycling against the water. Bodyism is also launching extra swimming classes this year, including HIIT in the pool to really push your body.
TURN UP THE HEAT
Hot yoga has been around for a while, but Hot Pod Yoga is taking the workout to the next level in terms of convenience. It is vinyasa flow yoga in 37 degree heat, but in a portable blow-up tent that pops up across London or comes to your office. There is no excuse for not finding the time now…
For those who want to up the ante and improve their fitness in weeks rather than months, Speed Flex is the perfect class. It is essentially a high energy circuit class, but it uses an isokinetic free motion bar, which only moves and responds the amount of force you apply to it. Throughout the class you’re connected to a heart-rate monitor, which displays your stats to the trainer and the rest of the class. It sounds daunting, but it encourages you to push in harder.
PERSONALISED CIRCUITS CLASS
A circuit class that combines Ten Pilates reformer machine, a spin bike and a TRX, as well as the traditional floor exercises of lunges, squats and press-ups. There are never more than five people per class, so it feels more like a personal training session and you don’t have to have a certain base level of fitness as each exercise is personalised to you.
